Why Do Some Atheists Convert To Christianity?

Most atheists who are such because they find no evidence for an interventionist god can readily see why there is a trend toward atheism in the developed world.  However, the frequent reports of atheists converting to Christianity elicit much wondering by such atheists.  Following are several links presenting cases of atheists converting to Christianity:

Bob Seidensticker claims that “ - - - well-informed atheists never change because of intellectual reasons.”  (http://www.patheos.com/blogs/crossexamined/2012/10/how-could-an-atheist-convert-to-christianity/

Based on my exposure to testimonies from atheists who have converted to Christianity, I would agree.  In other words, the atheist is either not informed regarding scientific analysis of the claims of Christianity and/or is ignoring such information to satisfy other conscious or unconscious needs.  A detailed, objective reading of all of the testimonials in the links above, which are representative of what one finds on the internet, reveals statements that are clearly refuted by science .  In addition, one can clearly see the non-intellectual reasons for the conversion.
What is the take-away from this Note?  The human brain can easily deceive us into using our emotional/intuitive capacities if motivated to do so, when science-based thinking is the correct route toward the truth.

  1. The few atheists I have known personally who converted to Christianity seemed to do so primarily because their desire to belong was greater than their commitment to reason.
