Why Progressive Politics Is Better Than Conservative Politics

This article defines a conservative as a person who is averse to change and holds to traditional values and attitudes, typically in relation to politics.  It defines a progressive as a person advocating or implementing social reform or new, liberal ideas. I think most people would accept these definitions and would agree that they are pretty much polar opposites.  However, since politics is not a "hard" science, it probably is not wise to accept all of the opinions from the extremes on either side.  That said, one side on the political spectrum historically has demonstrated superiority of its ideas.

I think most reasonable people would agree that in the course of human history there has been a progression of improvement in the quality of life for the average person and expansion of human rights.  Beginning with the renaissance humanism in the early modern period, slow advancement picked up steam and has not stopped (link).  Based on the above definitions, historically conservatives want to keep the status quo against new and reforming ideas. This article presents the success of the *progressive movement and how it is achieving its goals of a better life for all of humanity.

Now, if YOU are not a progressive, why not? (not a rhetorical question)

Note: In the history of the USA, progressive policies were advocated by different political parties.  For example, the first members of the Republican party were against slavery and the Democrats were pro-slavery.  Until recent decades, both parties had members actively promoting progressive policies.  However, now the Republicans have been hijacked by the NRA and Christian Evangelicals, both which promote conservative agendas.
