Gerrymandering: Autocracy Over Democracy

The history of Gerrymandering is as long as the history of the USA, with both parties doing it when in control of state government. However, after 2019, the problem became magnified. The Rucho v. Common Cause Supreme Court ruling (5-4 on party lines favoring the Republicans) found that "while partisan gerrymandering may be incompatible with democratic principles, the federal courts cannot review such allegations, as they present nonjusticiable political questions outside the remit of these courts."

GOP controlled 41% of districts
Dems controlled 11% of districts
Various state commissions and legal and at-large bodies controlled 48% of districts

Bottom line: the USA is not a representative democracy.
