In spite of overwelming opposition, President Truman recognized Israel as a State in 1948 (
link). The recent global negative reaction to President Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as the State capital of Israel has only compounded Truman unwise recognition (
link).
Why are such political steps unwise? The Israelis claim that Palestine was originally occupied by the Jews only. Let's objectively look at this claim:
The truth is that at the time that nationalistic Jews claim that they were the sole original residents of Palestine, there were many tribes in that area who fought each other (
link). In other words, this region (the Levant) was a thick stew of waring tribes and outside conquerers through most of its ancient history. In fact, the Jews have a much weaker claim as the original residents than the native Americans who were effectively murdered and quarantined in "Reservations" in the course of the formation of the present USA.
The only solution to the troubles in the Middle East is respectful communication and practical decisions that ALL in the region can live with. Every native faction in the region has a legitimate claim to ownership of some part of it.
