Difficulties can arise when one challenges a friend on a topic upon which his or her identity is attached. It is my policy to strongly challenge an idea that I find counter to reality as found through science and its methods. However, I try to do so without attacking the person. In such situations, agreeing to disagree respectfully is the best outcome if there are no changing opinions.
