To be fair, some atheists are angry and/or empty. It has nothing to do with atheism though!
ReplyDeleteTrue, atheists are probably just as likely to be angry and empty as theists. See Mother Teresa near the end of her life, for an example of emptiness. I was trying to attack the stereotyping from theists.
ReplyDeleteI recall being a very angry atheist. When I read the bible cover to cover for the first time, and discovered that I had been lied to as a child by clergy, parents, teachers, politicians, and society in general, I was royally pissed off! God was not good, and there was no Hell! I went through a bad period before I eased back into agnosticism, recognizing that all we know for sure is that we don't know. I would urge atheists to tamp down their anger, while at the same time, understanding where it comes from, for any who were indoctrinated with similar psychiatric child abuse.
