This so-called "Case for the Soul" is just another "God of the Gaps" argument (yawn). The mind emerges from the brain the same way water emerges from combining 2 atoms of hydrogen with 1 atom of oxygen. This mind, in turn, interacts with the brain and can change it. So what? Motor nerve impulses to muscles can change the structure of muscles. SMH
Human knowledge has progressed exponentially since the dawn of modern science. It is no longer reasonable to accept claims without sufficient objective evidence. The harm from religion, alternatives to medicine, conservatism, and all other false beliefs will be exposed on this blog by reporting the findings of science. This blog will also reinforce what should be the basics of education: History, Civics, Financial Literacy, Media Literacy, and Critical/Science Based Thinking.

The Brain Is Not A Receiver Of The Mind
The latest attempt by the religious to support the concept of an immaterial "soul" is to produce papers and articles hypothesizing that the brain does not produce the mind but that the brain is the "Receiver" of the mind (soul). Since I have not been able to find reputable neuroscientists supporting this hypothesis, I provisionally conclude that it is just another "God of the Gaps" argument. Can you think "Intelligent Design 2.0?"
Below are some links countering this "Receiver" hypothesis:

Are Our Minds Independent From Our Brains?
I have been in heated discussions with proponents of the
idea that the mind is independent from the brain. Among several places, these discussions have
taken place on the Skeptiko (don't be fooled by the name -- it is very
anti-science) website:

The Mind Is Not Reliable
After reading this, I'm sure that the Bible is an accurate account of
historical facts. After all, the New Testament was written decades
after the supposed events by unknown authors in a pre-scientific,
superstitious culture. The fact that we have nothing close to even a
early copy of the New Testament is also reassuring.
