Are Atheists Less Generous?

In this morning's local paper, the Charlotte Observer, there was a letter to the editor claiming that as the Nones grow, there will be a decline in generosity.  This was my response:

"Mr. Schwab seems to be looking in the wrong places if he thinks the "Nones" are less generous. A simple internet search of "Are atheists less generous?" will reveal several studies showing that the religious in the USA and around the world are LESS generous than atheists.  Oh, another internet search of "Atheists helping the homeless"  will reveal the fast-growing movement called Atheists Helping Homeless."
