The Histories Of Alexander The Great And Jesus

Many Christian apologists deny that there are no contemporaneous or primary sources for the Jesus found in the Bible. Others will accept this reality but claim that many other historical figures also have weak historical support. Alexander the Great is one of their favorites in making the comparison. Is this a fair comparison? The following says "no."

While the historical sources for Alexander the Great have conflicting information about him and existing contemporary writings are rare, no respected source denies his existence:
  • Despite these problems with the sources, the existence of Alexander is a reasonable belief because he has wide and independent attestation from all types of sources and not just those of his own followers. Some of these sources date from his own time and are attested archaeologically, not just from later accounts. So, we don’t just have to depend on later historians such as Plutarch and Arrian. For example, reliefs at the Shrine of the Bark at Luxor in Egypt mention Alexander by name and depict him artistically during his lifetime (ca. 330-325 BCE). That would confirm his presence in Egypt mentioned by all major ancient sources. (see link for more)

A Christian Scholar Debunks A Christian Scholar

"It's Christian scholar vs Christian scholar... is there sufficient evidence to support groups of people who saw a risen Jesus, and thereby create a problem for a naturalistic hypothesis like a hallucination? Dr. Andrew Loke puts forth some bold claims, and Dr. Dale Allison knocks them down... but in a different interview, so Paulogia had to put them together for you."

I love it when Christian scholars significantly disagree about historical evidence for the Biblical stories. This is special because the debunking scholar essentially debunks Christianity but still is a believer. It's a nice example of cognitive dissonance that makes it difficult to go for full rejection of the myth presently.

The Story Of Jesus Probably IS A Legend

"How can we be sure that the story of Jesus wasn’t changed over time? How do we know that the virgin conception, the miracles, and the Resurrection weren’t added to the story late? J. Warner Wallace talks about the nature of evidence tampering in this video, excerpted from his interview with Lee Strobel at a Sunday morning service at Woodlands Church in Woodlands, Texas."

The 18-min video below clarifies the issue and debunked the major apologetic FOR the Jesus of the Bible.

The Bible Story Is All They Have

"Christians love telling each other about how really reliable secular historians like Josephus and Tacitus wrote about Jesus. The implication is that these references serve as some kind of proof not only for Jesus' existence but for his resurrection, miracles, and godhood. But what do they actually say? What if anything do they prove? In this video, I take a look at an article that typifies how Christians approach ancient non-Biblical references to Jesus - along with looking at what these sources state, when they were written, and if they add up to good evidence for Jesus.
"SPOILER ALERT: They don't."

Click on the link below for a continuation of the revelation (pun intended) of how vapid Christian apologetics is. Sadly, these facts will not penetrate the delusion and dogma of those who are dependent on false claims for their living.

Don't Strawman Mythicism

I am agnostic regarding the question of a historical Jesus. However, I lean toward accepting that there was no historical Jesus and I do accept that the stories about Jesus as found in the New Testament are probably myths.

That said, I find that Biblical scholars, whether Christian or atheist, who don't accept the claim that there probably was not a historical Jesus frequently use the Strawman Fallacy.  The following videos are excellent in clarifying the evidence behind the claim that Jesus was probably not a real person.

Writings About Christians Are NOT Writings About Jesus

"In Eric Hovind and Tim Chaffey's new podcast, they answer the question, 'Are there authentic secular writings about Jesus?' It's one asked by believers and skeptics alike... what do we have outside of scripture that coincides or confirms what the Bible says?"

The Trinity Was An Evolving Concept

"The son, the father, and the holy spirit. This is the trinity, one of the most interesting and highly debated doctrines in all of Christianity. God, in 3 parts. From its conception, there have been many disagreements on the nature of Christ. Things concerning his divinity and his relationship to God. The modern view of the trinity is one of the most mysterious and incomprehensible doctrines in Christianity. Was Jesus God? Was Jesus possessed by God's spirit? Were Jesus and God two separate but equal beings? Was Jesus human? Was Jesus just a prophet? These questions have plagued Christianity since it's conception. This doctrine is the untouchable doctrine of Christianity and it continues to become more complicated as time goes on. Why is this? What were the early Christian ideas? What contentions were brought up? and how have these ideas changed over time? These are just some of the questions I set out to answer in this video."

This is dedicated to those Christians who believe Christian ideas about the nature of the supposed Jesus Christ were clear from the start of the movement.

Mystery Cults And Christianity

If you are a devout Christian who can't be dissuaded from your dogma, move along. That said, this is an excellent video from Richard Carrier, who has devoted his professional career to the history of Christianity and the Roman Empire. He not only debunks the uniqueness of Christianity but also some of the faulty claims made by atheists regarding the influence of pagan religions on Christianity.

Evidence For A Historical Jesus

Every year around this time (Easter), Christian apologists talk about the historicity of the events surrounding the crucifixion, death and resurrection of Jesus.  However, outside of the New Testament, where is the evidence?

Belief In Purgatory: What It Logically Leads To

For one to accept the concept of Purgatory, one must accept the concept of Heaven and Hell.  For one to accept Heaven and Hell, one must accept the account of the beginning of humanity literally as presented in Genesis.  Science clearly shows that Genesis is figurative.  If one accepts science in this regard, one must also accept the reality that all of the stories in the New Testament are figurative also, including Jesus.  Think about it.

The Case For The Mythicist's Position On The Historicity Of Jesus

Robert Price does one of the more complete and clear presentations in support of the position that there is not enough evidence to accept that there was an historical Jesus.

To Critics of Mythicists Regarding An Historical Jesus: You Are Wrong.

"As a scientist, I’ll say that I don’t regard the evidence that Jesus was a real person as particularly strong—certainly not strong enough to draw nearly all biblical scholars to that view. It’s almost as if adopting mythicism brands you as an overly strident atheist, one lacking “respect” for religion. There’s an onus against mythicism that can’t be explained by the strength of evidence against that view."

If you are a science-based thinker, you cannot accept an historical Jesus.

The Historicity of Jesus

The burden is on those who argue there was an historical Jesus. Those who make a claim are obligated to support it with sufficient evidence. There may have been an historical Jesus, however, I have not seen sufficient evidence for me to accept the claim.  (I, like Hector Avalos, am agnostic on this question.)   http://amestrib.com/sections/opinion/columns/hector-avalos-who-was-the-historical-jesus.html
