The Anti-Science Side Of The Clinton Campaign

"Other emails show members of Clinton's campaign team collaborating with groups that have a financial interest in promoting pseudoscience. In one email, Gary Hirshberg, who co-founded a company that peddles organic, GMO-free yogurt, is providing the Clinton campaign with science policy advice."

A Perspective Regarding The Treatment Of Bill's Accusers By Hillary Clinton

"Without endorsing any of Hillary Clinton's behavior, or minimizing any unfairness experienced by her husband's sex partners or alleged victims, it seems to me that asking a man or woman to react rationally and sympathetically to a person just as they're revealed to be having an affair with their spouse, or accusing their spouse of a crime, is to demand superhuman self-control and circumspection. Few could do it. In the first case, who wouldn't deeply resent a spouse's cheating partner, and be inclined to see them in the most unfavorable light? In the latter case, who wouldn't believe that their spouse was being wrongly accused, especially if the spouse really did have powerful enemies trying to destroy him?"

Yes, she behaved badly. But under the circumstances, how many people would've managed better? And how is it relevant to the job she may seek?

The Stress Of Running For President

"Since the intense pace of Trump and Clinton’s political paths is a marathon and not a sprint, it is likely that both have created some tricks to impose an element of normalcy in their predictably unpredictable current lifestyles.  Running for president is a full-time job and then some.  The Center for Disease Control’s (CDC) recommendations to manage stress in the most challenging of times may not be so realistic:  avoid drugs and alcohol, find support and connect socially, eat a well-balanced diet, maintain a normal routine, get plenty of sleep and stay active with exercise, hobbies and relaxation techniques.  A sense of humor is a bonus to stress reduction."

Changing One's Opinion In Light Of Evidence Is A Strength

"Every religious community must interpret its scripture and adjust its traditions to conform to the modern world. Western Christians used to murder people they believed were witches. They did this for centuries. It’s hard to exaggerate the depths of moral and intellectual confusion this history represents. But it is also true that we have largely outgrown such confusion in the West. The texts themselves haven’t changed. The Bible still suggests that witchcraft is real. It isn’t. And we now know that a belief in witches was the product of ancient ignorance and fear. Criticizing a belief in witchcraft, and noticing its connection to specific atrocities—atrocities that are still committed by certain groups of Christians in Africa—isn’t a form of bigotry against Christians. It’s the only basis for moral and political progress."

Lies From Republicans Over Hillary's Denunciation Of Half Of Trump Supporters

The dust still hasn't settled on Hillary Clinton's comments about half of Donald Trump supporter being "deplorable."  While most media have criticized her for this statement, it actually is essentially correct.  This editorial piece by conservative columnist Ed Rogers is a prime example of the lies being perpetuated around this story.  Of course Hillary recognizes and supports the character of working class people.  She was just telling the truth about the large portion of Trump's support coming from the "Alt-Right" bigots.

An Objective Look At The US Presidential Choices

There is much heat during this US presidential election cycle but little light.  The purpose of this brief post is to attempt to objectively look at the two candidates.  Full disclosure:  I am voting for Hillary Clinton because the alternative is totally unacceptable to any reasonable person who is not a partisan ideologue.

Character And The US Presidency

Anyone who knows me knows that not only that am I an atheist, I am also an anti-theist.  That said, today I heard Donald Trump say in front of a gathering of Evangelical Christians that we don't know anything about Hillary Clinton's position on religion.  Hello?  Since she has been a public figure, she has been well open about her background as a Methodist and her beliefs regarding social application of such.  What do we know about Trump's background regarding religion?

Jerry Coyne Has It Correct

"This is a rough season for Democratic voters like me. Most of us feel that the time is past due for a woman President, but Hillary has her own problems, including an unconscionable love of money and a record of osculating Wall Street banks, a lack of transparency, a discomfiting tendency to change her mind based not on principle but on political expediency, a disturbingly hawkish side, and so on. Bernie Sanders, on the other hand, is at least honest, doesn’t take big money, but has little experience."
